La voz de Nangui

Nangui's voice is a work of mixed-electroacoustic music for soprano, narrator in Mazatec language and computer with sound treatment in real time. The score of the work is a multimedia document : it contains audio files.

Questions to solve

Some of the questions that give rise to the research are:

  • How to integrate timbres and vocal techniques invented by the composer into the work?

  • How to ensure that a singer, without prior knowledge of the tonal language, can correctly intone the melody of this language? (in this case Mazatec).

The results show that the inclusion of audio files in the score, in order to be imitated by the soprano, and subsequently the variation of these imitations, allows new timbres and new vocal techniques to be integrated into the work.
